Living Life To The Fullest In 3 Easy Steps

Living Life To The Fullest In 3 Easy Steps

Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year, and
every year Morris would say, “Esther, I’d like to ride in that
helicopter.”

Esther always replied, “I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is
fifty dollars — and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said,
“Esther, I’m 85 years old. If I don’t ride that helicopter, I might
never get another chance.”

Esther replied, “Morris that helicopter is fifty dollars — and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.”

The pilot overheard the couple and said, “Folks I’ll make you a deal. I’ll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word I won’t charge you! But if you say one word, it’s fifty dollars.”

Morris and Esther agreed and up they went.

The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard.

He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word.

When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, “By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn’t. I’m impressed!”

Morris replied, “Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know — fifty dollars is fifty dollars!”

Is Fifty Dollars really that much to withhold from someone to fulfill something on their bucket list?

We can get so focused on money that we forget that it is only a resource to achieve our dreams.

Do you know people who are stingy with their money? Usually they have a stingy spirit as well.

A Key to Living Life to The Fullest

One key to living life to the fullest is investing ourselves in others.

Someday it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.

Your grudges,  resentments, frustrations and jealousies will finally disappear. So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to do lists will expire.

The  wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t

matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.

It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.

So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave.

What will matter is not your success but your significance.

What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.

What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.

What will matter is not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you.  What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.

Living A Life That Matters Doesn’t Happen by Accident

It’s not a matter of circumstance but of choice.

Yes, one of the keys to living our life to the fullest is to invest ourselves in someone and something greater than ourselves.

We need to have a spirit of graciousness.

How do we do this?

First Step

Become aware of all blessings you have in your life. Write them down.

What are you grateful for?

Many of us are so busy going through life we are not aware of how rich our life really is.

Second Step

Each day for 30 days write something that you are grateful for from that day? Why do this? Because it will get you to focus on what you do have and not on what you don’t have.

People who are stingy or selfish feel like they live a life of depravity rather than abundance. In reality we all life in a life of abundance, its right in front of us to take in but some of us can’t see it.

By writing down our blessings we become aware of how full our life is.

Third Step

Find someone who you can invest in. Give your blessing to. Be a presence of encouragement, and support.

Why?

Is Fifty dollars really Fifty dollars?

It is worth ten times the amount when it is invested in others.

A couple of years ago there was a young lady who was in graduate school at my alma mater.  She was a struggling single parent trying to finish her degree. I gave her a $100 bill. She looked at me with eyes of disbelief. “I can’t take this. I can’t pay it back right now.”

I smiled, “I don’t want you to pay it back, I believe in you and what you are trying to achieve, don’t deny me this blessing, Please take the money.”

Her eyes started to get misty as she took the money from me. “Thank you very much,” she said. “Not just for the money but for believing in me.”

I still remember her expression and the warmth in her voice. That memory was the best spending of a $100 in a long time for me.

It enriched my life beyond all measure of money.

These are not the only steps to living a life to the fullest but they will certainly get you started.

Be a Miracle

  1. Jerry, I really like your ideas in this blog post! I have often recommended to people to do a gratitude journal–especially if they are having a hard time understanding life or just having struggles. It certainly can be a way to gain needed perspective. I also like your idea of investing in someone else. I think it is very important to practice investing in and encouraging others. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
