This article explores the global shift of consciousness behind political movements like Trump’s rise, offering a reflection on fear, awakening, and collective human evolution.

As someone who has spent decades working in interfaith ministry and dialogue, I have witnessed firsthand the ways fear

can divide us—and how love and deeper awareness can heal. What we are facing in our country today is not just political unrest; it is part of a larger spiritual story unfolding across the globe. This article is a reflection on that deeper journey and how we might all participate in the awakening that is calling to us now, especially in light of the global shift of consciousness.

Understanding the Global Shift of Consciousness

In these divided times, it’s easy to feel exhausted, disheartened, and even afraid of where our country—and our world—is headed. The rise of Donald Trump, and the strong support he continues to receive, has left many wondering how we became so fractured as a nation. On the other side, many who voted for Trump feel equally afraid—afraid of losing control, of being left behind, of watching a way of life they cherished slip away.

But what if this moment isn’t just about politics or parties? What if something much bigger is happening beneath the surface—something global, even spiritual?

Across the world, we’re witnessing a profound tension. On one side, there is a rising wave of people awakening to new levels of consciousness—seeking greater compassion, diversity, justice, and interconnectedness. On the other, there is a deep, understandable fear of change—a pullback into protectionism, isolation, and nostalgia for a past that felt more certain.

These opposing energies aren’t unique to America. We see them in the Brexit movement in the United Kingdom, in the resurgence of far-right nationalism in parts of Europe, and in anti-immigration movements gaining momentum across multiple countries. They are symptoms of a global shift of consciousness—a turning point where humanity is being asked to decide: will we lean into expansion, or retreat into fear?

This article is an invitation. An invitation for those who supported Trump to reflect on what might be possible beyond fear. And an invitation for those who oppose Trump to meet this moment not with anger, but with compassion and clarity.

Because if we continue fighting fear with fear, we will only deepen the divide. But if we can recognize what’s really happening—a birth of something new, struggling through the contractions of the old—we might find a path forward together.

Why Many Voted for Trump (and Similar Global Movements)

To understand the depth of our divide, we first have to recognize the fears that led so many to support Trump. It’s easy to dismiss his followers as simply misguided or angry, but beneath the surface, there are real, human fears driving their choices—fears that deserve to be named and understood.

Many Trump voters felt that the ground beneath them was shifting too fast. They worried about a loss of identity, traditions, and security in a rapidly changing world. The rise of immigration stirred concerns about losing control of national borders. The growing diversity of cultures, languages, and lifestyles made some wonder if their own way of life would be erased or forgotten. Jobs once stable and familiar were disappearing, leaving communities feeling abandoned by the very systems meant to protect them.

For many, Trump became a symbol of protection—a way to regain a sense of control, of safety, of returning to something familiar. His words tapped into the part of the human spirit that clings to what feels known when faced with uncertainty.

And we see this same pattern playing out around the world. Brexit, for example, wasn’t just about political independence from the European Union—it was fueled by fears of immigration, economic instability, and cultural change. In countries across Europe, nationalist movements are growing in response to similar anxieties about borders, jobs, and identity.

What these movements reveal is a global, collective fear that the world is evolving faster than many people feel prepared to handle. And when that fear takes hold, it often manifests as a retreat—a pulling back into tribalism, nationalism, and a desire to fortify what feels safe and familiar.

This doesn’t excuse harmful rhetoric or policies. But it helps us understand that behind the anger, suspicion, and division are very real human emotions—fear of loss, fear of change, and fear of being left behind.

And if we can see that clearly, without judgment, we can begin to ask the deeper question: what would it take to help that fear soften?

The Global Awakening Underneath the Fear

While the fear and pullback we’re witnessing are real, they are not the whole story. Beneath the surface of this unrest, something new and extraordinary is trying to emerge—a global awakening of consciousness.

For decades now, we’ve been experiencing an acceleration of human connection. Technology has made the world smaller. Cultures and ideas flow across borders with unprecedented speed. Conversations about equality, justice, sustainability, and shared humanity are happening everywhere, calling us into deeper awareness of how interconnected we truly are.

This is the expansion—an evolution beyond old paradigms of power, dominance, and separation into a new way of being grounded in compassion, cooperation, and global responsibility. More and more people are waking up to the truth that we don’t thrive at the expense of others—we thrive with others.

And yet, every expansion in human history has been met with contraction. Just as an inhale is followed by an exhale, so too does a cultural awakening stir fear in those who feel unready or unwilling to release old certainties. For some, this awakening feels like loss. Loss of tradition. Loss of identity. Loss of familiar systems that kept the world predictable, even if imperfect.

Trump’s rise—and movements like Brexit and the resurgence of nationalism—are expressions of that contraction. They are the collective exhale of a world being asked to grow faster than parts of it feel ready for.

But here is the hope: contractions are not the end. They are part of the birthing process. They signal that something is being born—something larger than any one leader or election.

This is the larger story we’re living through. Not just political turbulence, but the labor pains of a new era in human consciousness. And the question before us is not how to stop the contractions, but how to stay grounded in love and courage as we help bring this new reality into being.

An Invitation to Trump Supporters

To those who have supported Trump, I want to say this: your fears are real. The world is changing rapidly, and it can feel as though the ground is shifting beneath your feet. It is human to want to protect what feels familiar and safe.

But what if the change you fear isn’t something to fight against, but something to grow with? What if the diversity you worry will erase you is actually what can help us all become more whole?

Fear is not the only option. You can choose to channel your love for this country into creating the next chapter—one that honors the past but is not imprisoned by it.

An Invitation to Those on the Left

To those who are deeply opposed to Trump, I offer this: be careful not to mirror the very fear you wish to overcome. Anger and despair are understandable, but if we respond to fear with fear, we keep the cycle alive.

Our work is to hold the higher ground—not with superiority, but with love. We must stay grounded in justice while opening our hearts to understanding those who feel left behind.

By listening instead of judging, we shift the energy and become part of the healing.

What’s Possible Now

This is not just a political moment. It is a transformational one.

We are being asked to choose how we respond:
– Will we deepen the divide or build bridges?
– Will we protect the past or create the future?

This is not idealism. This is the work of evolution.
I wrote an article asking if it is to late but I don’t think so

Conclusion

What we are living through is nothing less than the birth of a new level of human consciousness.

This is our moment to rise together into the next chapter of our shared becoming.

Because beneath all the fear, all the noise, there is something deeper at work.

And I believe that something is love, calling us forward.
